PHARR – The construction of a new hike and bike trail is coming along as planned.

It will have tunnels running underneath roads so hikers and cyclists don't have to worry about traffic.

Hidalgo County Pct 2 Commissioner Eddie Cantu says during Christmas break the first access tunnel was installed under Veterans Blvd.

Crews lined up the concrete culverts in only two weeks.

“It’s the first regional project where you have multiple cities and the county working together to create a beautiful quality of life hike and bike trail,” said Cantu.
