Dozens of meals delivered to residents affected by flooding in Green Valley Farms community
Driving through the flooded neighborhoods, volunteers came together in the community of Green Valley Farms outside of San Benito.
A group of volunteers from Los Fresnos and San Benito came together to deliver food and water to the people in Green Valley Farms
“I went to other areas, this seemed to be one of the worst areas,” volunteer Nataly Ramos said.
Meals to 50 families were delivered Thursday. Ramos and her husband have been handing out resources depending on the needs of the people
Among those who received help was Analee Elias. She and her family are stuck at home.
“We haven't really been able to go out… our car is on top of logs so we haven't been able to use it,” Elias said. “So we've been stuck at home with three children, so it's been really hard."
Volunteers gave Elias her food for her entire family, including her dogs
“I'm really grateful for the food, because no one has really thought about the animals that we have,” Elias said.
The meals were donated by the American Red Cross, but Ramos donated other items. She and others are using their own money to buy resources to help families.
“I think this is the time that we all come together, help in whatever way we can,” Ramos said. “We all have different talents, different resources."
Elias said she hopes the county can also lend a hand.
“I just hope that the next time this happens, the county acts faster,” Elias said.
Cameron County is also helping out residents by opening up resource information center where people can come to see what is available for them.
