For the last several years, Lone Star BBQ has been a staple in McAllen.
One of the restaurant’s traditions is feeding the community every Thanksgiving. This year, Lone Starr BBQ owners will be sifting through rubble.
A fire broke out at the restaurant late Friday night. No one was inside the restaurant when the fire broke out.
“It's just going to be very sad for me and my family,” Lone Star BBQ owner Darrell Myska said. “This is my baby, it almost makes you want to cry."
Lone Star BBQ is a family business. Myska opened it with his dad, and it's where he met his wife — Ginger — who was a regular at the restaurant.
“We got married a year later,” Ginger said.
Myska said throughout the years of serving BBQ, his employees became his family as well. Myska said it will be a tough season for them as he tries to rebuild.
“We're gonna do our best and see what happens what the Lord brings us,” Myska said.
McAllen Fire Chief Juan Gloria said they’re investigating the cause of the fire, and that the restaurant will have to fix the area and pass a health inspection before they reopen.
A GoFundMe was created to support Lone Star BBQ’s employees while the restaurant remains closed. You can donate to it by clicking here.
