The lanes are covered in debris after the 2nd Street overpass was struck by a vehicle, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT crews are clearing debris from the road, and have closed the main westbound lanes of the expressway in the area.
The closure will remain in place until further notice until TxDOT determines it is safe for drivers to travel under the bridge on the expressway again, spokesman Ray Pedraza said.
The 2nd Street overpass is also closed until further notice for debris cleanup and assessment of the structure of the bridge.
Traffic is being detoured onto the westbound I2 frontage road at the 10th Street exit, according to a TxDOT news release. Drivers are then routed back to the expressway after 2nd Street, and should expect delays or seek an alternate route.
This is a developing story, check back for updates.
