MISSION – A Rio Grande Valley woman says a contractor she hired for her home didn't finish the job. She says she hasn't been able to get him for weeks.
Joyce Ramsdale decided to move to Mission in 2015 after years of coming down for winters. She says last year, she decided it was time to make some upgrades to her place.
Ramsdale keeps a very busy schedule. She uses her time helping others who may be in need.
"I volunteer at the hospital and at my church a lot," she says.
She got to know a contractor named Peter Lopez who went to the same church as her, she says. He did some work on the church facility and she was impressed.
Ramsdale says she asked him to do a new paint job on her house and remove some of the rotting wood on its exterior. She says he told her she needed eight new windows as well.
She says Lopez agreed to do it for $6,886 with an up-front payment.
"He wanted 75 percent. So I gave him $5,000," she recalls.
She says he started the work but didn't finish the painting or removal of rotting wood. She adds he didn't even start the window replacement.
Ramsdale says Lopez asked for more cash. However, he did not continue to do any of the work in the contract.
"So I gave him $1,200. He wanted $1,200, and it was a couple days later that he didn't come back," she notes.
When it became apparent that the contractor wasn't going to come back and finish the work, Ramsdale says she began to call him a lot.
"I called him two to three times a week for a couple weeks but his phone said that his voicemail had not been set up," she explains.
She says she just wants Lopez to just finish the work or return her money.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the contractor, Peter Lopez, to see if he would finish the work. He agreed to speak with us off camera.
Lopez told us he was delayed because he ordered the wrong windows for the project and that he would stop by on Monday or Tuesday to speak with Ramsdale. He adds he will complete the job.
Ramsdale says she is happy we were able to get Lopez to speak with her and agree to finish his work.
You can count on CHANNEL 5 NEWS to follow up on this story to see if Lopez keeps his word.
