Brownsville City Commission approve metro fare increase
Brownsville city commissioners have voted to approve a fare increase for Brownsville Metro buses.
The fare increase would take effect on October 1. The general fare will increase from $1 to $2.
During Tuesday night's commissioner's meeting, many residents were not happy about the increase.
"It's going to make me anxious still because I still have to figure out a way...to get around and get things done," bus rider Alma Lozano said.
City commissioners say a big reason for the increase was to make sure bus drivers jobs would not be impacted.
They said there will be discounts for students, seniors and disabled riders.
