Rare bird sighting brings in visitors from across the country to Cameron County park
A rare bird that was spotted in Olmito is attracting bird watchers from across the country.
A gray-collared becard was found over the weekend at the Resaca de la Palma State Park.
This is the only third time this bird has been spotted in the United States. It’s also the first time it’s been spotted in Texas.
“It's way off of its range,” Resaca De La Palma State Park Superintendent Raul Garza Jr. said. “It's normally found in Sonora — and to be in Cameron County, that's a pretty big deal."
The bird was still at the park as of Thursday evening.
