PSJA softball advances to first ever state semifinal in program history
PSJA softball is making school history as the team is headed to its first ever state semifinal.
The Lady Bears took down Dripping Springs 4-2 in Game 2 on Friday night to sweep their way into the Final Four.
Lady Bears star pitcher Emma Escamilla launched her 17th home run of the season to start the scoring and put the Lady Bears in front. PSJA wound up taking a 3-0 advantage thanks to RBI hits from Amerie Vega and Ivanna Salas before Dripping Springs managed to get on the scoreboard.
Adamaris Garza added another run to the board on an RBI single in the sixth, allowing Escamilla some extra run support as she closed out the final frame.
Salas caught the final out on a line drive to officially clinch the victory, keeping PSJA perfect this postseason.
"I really just want to cry," PSJA sophomore outfielder Adamaris Garza said. "I was just tearing up. We made history. It just feels great right now. I feel so excited."
"It feels so amazing," Escamilla added. "Obviously all glory to God. Coming into this last inning I was praying just asking God to give me the strength to finish the rest of this game and give all of my girls and me the strength to continue. We're so excited. Final Four, making history, so onto the next round."
PSJA will face Katy in the state semifinal for the right to go to the state championship, with the date and time still to be determined.
