WESLACO – The president of the Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about fake Amazon confirmation emails.

Dolores Salinas says the email looks like the confirmation to an Amazon order, but clicking on the email can put your personal information in jeopardy.

She says this phishing email can be hard to identify.

Salinas says if consumers encounter a strange email from Amazon confirming an order that hasn’t been placed; contact Amazon directly from a different device.

"Contact Amazon and let them know that you've received this phishing scam because more than likely this has already been reported to them," she says.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, millions of reports of phishing scams come in every year.

Salinas says it’s important to monitor bank account activity to avoid being a victim of fraud.
