New study to identify areas affected by flooding in Cameron County
Officials in Brownsville are set to release the findings of a new study that will help them control flooding throughout different parts of Cameron County.
The Brownsville Engineering and Public Works Department are set to present their flood infrastructure fund project study on Wednesday, July 12.
The study identifies 10 populated areas within Cameron County most impacted by flooding.
"Clearly, we know we have a need. It's identifying and documenting that need so that we can be prepared when the funding is available," Brownsville Engineering and Public Works Director Doroteo Garcia Jr. said. “The next year you'll definitely see the scope of at least one or two of these projects develop additional detail that will be more specific."
Findings of the study will be presented during a public meeting at the Brownsville Public Library at 4:30 p.m. Officials won't go over specific neighborhoods or areas, and will instead they'll focus on large regional projects for the county.
