The McAllen police chief spoke with the community on Wednesday to discuss the city’s latest annual crime report.

According to the data, officers went on more than 141 thousand calls in 2023, an increase of 3% compared to 2022.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said the most common call was for "crimes against persons."

“This is a call that involves a complaint about someone doing an assault, something that involves another person,” Rodriguez said.

According to the FBI, violent crimes in McAllen dropped in most categories.

One exception was murder, as McAllen has seen an uptick in murders year over year since 2022.
