WESLACO – Diabetes is a problem for people of all income levels, including those who receive food stamps.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS wants to know why would taxpayers pay for something that is going to get somebody sick?

The answer to that question isn’t so simple.

What we can tell you is the food stamp program in Texas started with the mission “as a way to help people of low incomes and resources buy food for good health.”

So why does Texas Health and Human Services allow people to buy food that could get them sick over time?
