Edinburg CISD: Bus driver resigns after student left behind on school bus
The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District is investigating after an elementary school student was left behind on a bus Thursday night.
A spokesperson for the district confirmed the incident occurred at Hargill Elementary School, and said the bus driver resigned following the incident.
According to Edinburg CISD spokeswoman Lisa Ayala, the student fell asleep on the bus and woke up alone with the bus inside a bus barn near the school.
The student managed to get off the bus.
The bus driver did not follow safety protocols and procedures when leaving the student behind, Ayala added.
The Edinburg school district board of trustees announced an emergency meeting to be held Friday at noon to discuss bus safety and protocols.
