COVID-19 surge impacting number of ICU beds available in Cameron County
As COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise across the Valley, one Brownsville hospital says their intensive care unit has reached total capacity.
Officials at Valley Baptist Hospital say they've added makeshift ICU beds for COVID-19 patients to meet the rising demand.
Director of Critical Care at Valley Baptist Medical Center Harlingen Dr. Jamil Madi says hospitals have seen the number of COVID-19 patients increase since June.
"The emergency room has been full, too," Madi said. "Wherever you go, whichever hospital you go to—the emergency room has been filled with patients who are either COVID and non-COVID."
