Rep. Vicente Gonzalez announced more than $161 million in federal education funding for school districts across South Texas.

A total of $158,668,541 has been distributed to school districts in the Rio Grande Valley.

The money comes from Fiscal Year 2026 Title I formula allocation funds for the 34th Congressional District of Texas. Title I is the largest K-12 federal grant program in the country.

Districts can use the funding to hire and train teachers and support staff, buy instructional materials and technology and improve student and family engagement programs.

"Education is the great equalizer," Rep. Gonzalez said. "We owe it to the children of South Texas to provide the resources and support needed to succeed in and beyond the classroom. As the current Administration continues to threaten the Department of Education's existence and strip funding from our public schools, I remain steadfast in my commitment to securing federal investments for our communities. Every student, regardless of background or zip code, deserves a fair chance at achieving their full potential."

Nearly all major Independent School Districts in South Texas qualify as Title I districts. Below is a breakdown of allocations for Valley school districts.
