Better Business Bureau warning the public of storm repair scams
With so many homes destroyed or damaged from the recent Laguna Heights tornado, the Better Business Bureau of South Texas says now’s the time scammers usually try to cash in on storm disasters.
When it comes to dealing with storm damage, it may be tempting to hire the first contractor that knocks on your door.
But the BBB says it’s important to do extensive research on whoever you decide to work with.
“What we suggest whenever you get anyone visiting your house that you make sure you ask for references that you verify,” Sandra Morin with the BBB of South Texas said.
After verifying references, Morin recommends you call the BBB to make sure the company you chose doesn't have any complaints filed against them.
Morin also advised people never pay for the job in full upfront to not lose out on money if the job is incomplete.
“We always suggest that you don't sign a blank contract and to make sure you understand the terms and conditions that are on that contract before signing,” Morin said.
