LAREDO – Authorities closed the World Trade Bridge between Laredo and Nuevo Laredo after damaging rains and winds.
The bridge is exclusively for commercial traffic between the two countries and is one of the busiest commercial crossings along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The U.S. facility processes more than 12,000 cargo vehicles per day. All the vehicles are being rerouted to another bridge.
The bridge was closed around 2 p.m. on Sunday and the storm hit around 4 p.m. The National Weather Service is touring the area to survey the storm damage.
Six other buildings and a subdivision were damaged by the storm.
The closure could have a direct impact at bridges in the Rio Grande Valley.
