Sharyland Pioneer is coming off of a three-way district tie between Mission Veterans Memorial and Roma last season.
This year the Diamondbacks lost three starters in their offense including their quarterback, filling in that key role will be a sophomore. Their defense is looking mighty strong with seven starters returning.
“It’s very tough. Just having a brand new quarterback coming in, we’re just trying to adapt to that environment around these young guys and just trying to see how we do this season,” Pioneer senior wide receiver Matthew Maldonado said.
“We’ve got some guys that can really play and can really run out there and that are leaders and we’re just going to rely on them to lead this team and to be mentors for our younger kids and hopefully they set the example," Pioneer head coach Eddie Galindo said. "We have a long preseason, we have six long district games and we just have to look to get better every week."
