The Brownsville Hanna Golden Eagles are looking to end the playoff drought this year.

The struggles of the past three years are now behind them.

Those playoff hopes are aided by the fact that the district is just a little smaller this year.

Weslaco and Rivera are out, in is Brownsville Veterans. That means there are four available playoff spots up for grabs for five teams.

Hanna head coach Mark Guess is already seeing some players standing out in his team's camp, especially on the defensive side.

"At this point, of course it's early, I think our running back spot is looking pretty good, and our linebacker spot is looking pretty good," Guess said. "We have a pretty decent defensive line with a couple returning starters from last year... I think that box is probably going to be our strength on defense but I think everybody's stepping it up, we just have to make sure we play as a team and get it done."

The first game of the season for Hanna is set for August 30th against McAllen Memorial.
