Joel Collazo is charged with murder and capital murder in the deaths of Jesus Collazo Sr. and Juanita Collazo.
Their bodies were found inside their home on West Los Ebanos Drive-In in January last year.
Police said the son also poured an accelerant over their bodies in an attempt to burn them.
Investigators said he admitted to killing his father.
His trial is set for April 17.
