WESLACO – State officials are improving the process for violent crime victims and their families to receive funds.

The Crime Victims Compensation Program helps with expenses related to the crime including relocation services, medical bills and crime scene clean up.

On September 10, the Attorney General’s Office created an online system for victims’ applications to be uploaded – whereas before they would have to be faxed or mailed.

KRGV’s Trason Bragg spoke with the Liliana Mendez, Director of Crime Victim Services at Cameron County District Attorney’s Office, about the impact of this change.

“We can get their information faster with that in mind that could speed up the process for the victim to get their money,” says Mendez.

Mendez explains you can call the victim services department at your district attorney’s office.
