Starr Co. Under Elevated Threat of Erratic Fire

RIO GRANDE CITY – Starr County is under an elevated threat of erratic fire and a burn ban due to current low humidity, dry and windy conditions.
County officials warn people against driving in grassy areas, throwing cigarettes out the window or burning agriculture.
Assistant Fire Chief Armando Acevedo with the county’s Precinct 3 Volunteer Fire Department said because of low rain, the county’s been under a burn ban since January.
He said the department has responded to nearly 150 calls this year for unauthorized burns.
Acevedo added burning trash is always illegal.
