The body of a 50-year-old male driver was recovered late Wednesday night after his vehicle drove into the water at the Carl "Joe" Gayman Bridge on Highway 48 in Brownsville

Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza confirmed the discovery of the body in a social media post made Thursday morning.

The body of a 50 year old man from Brownsville was recovered last night from the Gayman Bridge Waterway. Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa IV has ordered an autopsy. Investigation is ongoing. pic.twitter.com/6NgZXQCkE0

"Justice of the Peace Bennie Ochoa IV has ordered an autopsy. Investigation is ongoing," the post stated.

Multiple units responded to the scene including a dive team and a drone unit, Brownsville Fire Chief Jarrett Sheldon said.
