Thanksgiving is the kick-off to the busy travel season as families head out of town for the holidays.
But crooks may also be on the move this season.
The Pharr Police Department says they've seen a 20% increase in crime rates during the holidays over the past two years.
Police say extra security is just a phone call away.
Several law enforcement agencies across the Valley say they offer holiday related patrol requests to have an officer patrol the area.
“You'll give your address, your name the days you'll be out we'll put it in a system,” Pharr police officer Steven Guerrero said.
To request a holiday related patrol, call your local police agency.
Police also recommend assigning a relative or a neighbor you know and trust to keep an eye on your home.
