PHARR – A Pharr man almost lost $1,500 by trying to restore his credit.

The man tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he went to a credit repair business thinking he would fix his credit.

“After two weeks went by, he never called me. I called him, he never answered. I went by, he was never there. So I assumed he probably moved from there,” he says.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas tried locating the business but the address led to a car lot.

Better Business Bureau Director Dolores Salinas explains those who get help at credit repair business could be at risk.

"It may jeopardize you, in that, if you bought a house or a car with inaccurate information or possibly fraudulent information, they could come back to you and want to redo your contract, maybe at a higher interest rate,” says Salinas.

She explains the BBB provides free services on how you can improve your credit report and rating.
