BROWNSVILLE – Authorities say the officer-involved shooting in Brownsville case will be investigated by the Texas Rangers.

The Brownsville Police Department says at around 8:00 p.m. they were called to the 100 block of Clara Bennett Drive in response to an assault.

Police say a 24-year-old suspect allegedly pointed a pistol at officers while holding a knife.

They say she was given several commands to drop her weapon and did not comply.

The officers then fired their weapons and the suspect was transported to the hospital.

Local resident, Juan Garcia, says he has lived in the area where the shooting happened for two years.

Garcia says he went outside to his car at approximately 8:30 p.m. when he saw an onslaught of police units.

"I decided to go back and just wait a little bit to see maybe if the situation would calm down,” says Garcia.

Garcia says he is happy with the police response, but still feels unsettled.

The suspect remains in stable condition at a local hospital.
