MCALLEN – A Mission doctor has agreed to pay over $2 million in settlement money to resolve allegations that he fraudulently submitted claims to Medicare for unnecessary tests.

Dr. Augusto Castrillon is a family physician who owned Castrillon Family Clinic in Mission.

According to the release, he appeared to be ordering an excessive number of complicated diagnostic tests.

The claims also indicated these tests were ordered for patients on a recurring basis.

The $2,133,959.30 settlement resolves the allegations that Castrillon violated the False Claims Act by submitting claims to Medicare for unnecessary testing.

The claims resolved by this agreement are allegations only, and there has been no determination of liability.
