City leaders in McAllen are trying to reduce the amount of street crashes, and they're asking for ideas.
The city unveiled a survey seeking input for their Vision Zero Action Plan, which aims to decrease the amount of severe injuries and fatalities in McAllen roadways to zero. The plan will help determine how to make improvements in the future to protect bicyclist, pedestrians, vehicular traffic and all roadway users, a news release stated.
On Wednesday, shoppers at La Plaza Mall were surveyed to identify road concerns in the city, and to provide suggestions on how to input traffic flow.
The city will use the input toward their action plan, and improvements made for it will be paid for with a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.
There are spots the city is already working to improve.
“A lot of the accidents are happening on the bigger streets, the main corridors that we have — Ware Road, 23rd Street, 10th Street...but if we're all paying attention, we'll do a lot better with accidents,” McAllen City Commissioner Rodolfo Castillo said.
