More teachers are leaving the classroom after the pandemic - and educators, administrators, and unions are looking for ways to fix that.
Brownsville ISD voted to give their teachers a $1,500 check. According to Texas Valley Educators Association Executive Director Adina Alegria, the district lost around 200 teachers.
Over at Point Isabel ISD, an expanded program provided a $500 check to more than just teachers.
“From the bus drivers to our cafeteria staff and our custodians that prepare our classrooms for true learning,” district superintendent Teri Capistran said. “Right now, I believe it's been a huge factor as far as retaining our teachers and also recruiting them.”
