Local Residents Turn to Prayer for President's Potential Arrival

ALAMO – The national spotlight on the Rio Grande Valley has some residents turning to prayer.
Local resident Maria Cortez says whenever she has a big request, she goes to the San Juan Basilica to pray.
She says she is praying for peace and protection after learning of the president’s potential arrival.
"For everything, in general, for the things that are happening because of the shutdown and to ask for peace," Cortez says.
San Juan Basilica administrator, Pablo Villescas and Cortez say they are pleased to have President Trump potentially visit the border knowing God is in control.
The Basilica is open to visitors 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
