KRGV’s Yuridia Gonzalez made a visit to a Rio Grande Valley home to learn about some of the cooking habits and the ingredients that go into each homemade meal.
Isidra Cortez spoke about her passion for cooking Mexican food.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to a dietitian to evaluate which ingredients could be replaced in order to have a healthier meal.
"We always say moderation is key, really understating what that portion control is. A lot of our foods already naturally have salt in them, so our biggest things are to just cut back," explains H-E-B dietitian Andie Gonzalez.
Gonzalez says one out of four people will be diagnosed with diabetes so these changes must start early.
