EDINBURG – The man accused of shooting a state trooper in April has been indicted by a grand jury.
Victor Alejandro Godinez was indicted on three counts of attempted capital murder, according to Hidalgo County District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez.
Godinez is charged for the attempted murder of DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez.
Sanchez was the first law enforcement officer to arrive on the scene of a crash north of McAllen, when he realized the driver, Godinez, had fled.
Upon locating Godinez, the trooper was shot twice, once in the shoulder and in the head; that is when a manhunt for Godinez ensued.
For more than an hour, ground patrol roamed the streets with helicopters overhead looking for Godinez before capturing him.
Sanchez was recently transferred to a medical facility in Houston to continue rehabilitation.
