The Brownsville Veterans Memorial Chargers will be going head-to-head against the Harlingen Cardinals this Friday.
"We're going to play a 6A powerhouse," Chargers senior quarterback Storm Montoya said of Harlingen. "They've been a powerhouse since forever."
It's the first time the two sides will face off since 2015.
After nearly a decade, the two teams reside in the same district once again.
"The kids are hyped," Harlingen head football coach Manny Gomez said. "We always have a lot of preparation and going on a business trip and take care of business and it should be a great game for both communities."
The Chargers are 0-4 all-time against the Cardinals.
With both teams expected to be firmly in the district title race coming into this season, Thursday's matchup could prove to be pivotal in who takes home the title at season's end.
