ERCOT Urges Residents to Conserve Electricity to Prevent Outages

WESLACO- The Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT is urging residents to conserve energy.
It's the hottest time of the year and the temperatures aren't the only thing sky-rocketing, the demand for electricity supply is too.
With a thin margin of reserve power, the operator of the state's grid is asking consumers to conserve.
There are a couple of ways to conserve power:
- Set you thermostats two-to-three degrees higher from 3 to 7 p.m.
- Turn off and unplug non-essential lights and appliances.
- Avoid using large appliances like washers and driers until after 7 p.m.
- Set pool pumps to run early morning or overnight.
ERCOT says these measures are to prevent rolling blackouts or overloading the grid.
While there are no rolling blackouts right now, ERCOT suggests people can start conserving now to prevent any potential outages.
We'll keep you updated on when the conservation notice is lifted.
