DONNA – A troubled water tower in Donna is leaking once again. It’s the same water tower that leaked for days back in December near Donna High School.

If you’re heading eastbound on the Frontage Road past Donna, you’ll probably be able to see it from the street.

Right now, the city’s trying to figure out what to do about another leak in the water tower near Donna High School.

“Right now we are in the research stage,” explained Donna City Manager Carlos Yerena. “We’re working with a couple of companies and we’re going to go out there and see what the best option is and get it fixed.”

Last time this happened, crews were brought down all the way from Grapevine, Texas to fix the problem. Yerena says they don’t know what caused the leak.

“I don’t think it’s quite the original spot,” he said. “I think it’s around the area.”

He says there’s no telling at this time how much water has been lost.

The same water tower has been cited by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for maintenance issues before, most recently in Nov. 2017, for widespread corrosion inside and outside of the tank.

Yerena says this storage water tank can be used for drinking water and maintaining pressure throughout the city, but it’s not the only option.

“We have another water tower in our city. That water tower is 500,000 gallons,” he said.

Right now, the city is building a new water tower to resolve alleged violations from the TCEQ. The city has a deadline of Aug. 31 to repair or replace the leaking tank according to TCEQ.

The city manager tells us he hopes to have the new tank finished by the summer.
