DACA Recipient Wants Awareness of Boca Chica Checkpoint

BOCA CHICA – A local student who is a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient says she didn’t bring her immigration documents to the SpaceX launch site.
The DACA student says she had no idea there was a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on the way back from Boca Chica.
She says she has lived in the Rio Grande Valley most of her life, but had never traveled this far into Cameron county and didn't expect to pass an immigration inspection point.
The spokesperson for the RGV Border Patrol sector, Hermann Rivera, says this checkpoint has been in place since 1997.
Rivera adds this checkpoint is strategically located on a route of egress from the border.
The DACA student says she doesn't disagree with the added security along the border; she just wants others to know the checkpoint exists.
