NEAR EDINBURG – Emergency response crews were called to the scene of a fatal wreck in Edinburg on Monday.
Authorities said a male passenger died as a result of the crash.
The incident happened on Highway 281 near the Trenton Road exit. Traffic was backed up for almost a mile this afternoon.
Edinburg Police Department spokesman Peter De La Garza said the call came in around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
He said the female driver of a black SUV lost control in the northbound lanes, veered to the left and hit a concrete barrier.
She was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
No other vehicles were involved.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
