Contract for CBP Tent Processing Centers Approved

WESLACO – The contract to begin construction of "soft sided structures" that will function as temporary processing centers along the border was approved Thursday, Apr. 18.
Customs and Border Protection filed the fast-tracked contract six days prior to its approval.
Within the documents they stated they needed to work quickly to address the immigration surge at the border.
Their deadline to build the facilities in El Paso and Donna, Texas is set for April 30.
The facilities will expand processing space for Border Patrol.
It's described as a soft-sided facility that can be used for eight months starting in May with a base cost of $19,212,800 with the option to extend month-by-month through December for a total cost of $37,225,600.
According to the federal bidding site, the total cost of the awarded contract is $36,870,400.
By overriding the traditional bidding process and working with a company CBP stated, Deployed Resources, worked with the agency in 2016, documents state the facility would be completed by Apr. 30, 2019.
