Company to Rehire Jail Officers in Willacy Co.

RAYMONDVILLE – Willacy County State Jail’s new management company announced they’re going to rehire hundreds of people who were recently laid off.
LaSalle Corrections is planning to rehire the 157 people to be laid off by CoreCivic.
CoreCivic lost the contract with the Texas Department Criminal Justice. The layoffs are scheduled to take effect on Aug. 31.
LaSalle Corrections got the contract through a competitive bidding process. Officials will be on site now through Sept. 1.
“We’re gonna transition the employees to our company, the ones that want to come to work for us. Because, you know, we want to try to hire everybody that’s here that we can to try to keep the local people employed,” Robert J. Eason, the director of operations for LaSalle Corrections, said.
LaSalle will be transitioning the employees into their payroll and benefits systems. Eason said LaSalle is still determining if new jobs will be added at the facility.
