MISSION – The skeleton base of two warehouse structures stand unfinished and untouched in a lot off Moorefield Rd in Mission.
Mission resident Jose Perez said he decided to start a small business after relocating from Indiana to the Rio Grande Valley.
He and his wife planned to open a muffler shop next month to honor the seventh anniversary of their son's death.
Perez said he hired McAllen-based Lamina Barata to dismantle, relocate and reconstruct two warehouses.
In total, Perez said the project would cost $5,500, but paid the company $2,500 up front.
The remaining balance would be paid once the work was complete, according to a deal between the two parties.
Perez said a worker at Lamina Barata, Arturo Gonzalez, demanded $2,000 dollars more to finish the project two weeks ago.
Perez said he's willing to pay the remaining balance once the work is complete.
A CHANNEL 5 NEWS crew met with Gonzalez who refused an on-camera interview and said he would resolve the matter with Perez directly.
Perez said he filed a police report with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office.
He said he sent Gonzalez a letter to go to court and is looking for other legal options to get a resolution.
