Brenda Villa

Brenda Villa is a reporter for CHANNEL 5 NEWS THIS MORNING. She joined KRGV in October 2022.

She graduated from California State University, Fullerton, with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a certificate in Hispanic Media.

During her college years, she served as vice president of the school’s student chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She was also a Bilingual anchor and multi-skilled journalist for the English and Spanish newscast.

Brenda started her career as an Assignment Desk Editor at NBC LA and Telemundo 52. During her time there, she also worked with NBC LA’s I-Team Investigative Unit.

Prior to that, Brenda worked as a Fellow Reporter for Univision and KMEX Univision 34 in Los Angeles, after winning a campus-wide social justice pitch contest.

Brenda was born in Mexico and raised in Southern California. She is happy to be in the Rio Grande Valley taking in the best of two rich cultures.

When she is not working, Brenda enjoys exploring the Valley, drinking coffee and going on walks and baking pastries.
