Weslaco breaks ground on new public safety complex
The city of Weslaco broke ground on an all-new public safety complex Friday afternoon.
The future complex will be just under 250,000 square feet and include two separate buildings. One will house the entire police department and all fire department administration. The other will be the new home of Fire Station #2.
The building is designed to meet the needs of the growing city.
Weslaco Fire Chief Antonio Lopez said this facility will be able to accommodate the newest state-of-the-art fire trucks - compared to their current building that's been around since the 1920's.
The new police station will provide efficient workspaces, additional jail space, interview rooms, and a state-of-the-art evidence processing area.
Construction is expected to be completed by Summer 2023.
