WESLACO – Several Rio Grande Valley residents have collected hundreds of dollars to help pay for the border wall.

The residents say they have collected about $12,000 for the border wall.

Local resident Marilou Prudencio says she collected hundreds of donations after telling friends from across the country about local border concerns.

They say they are still figuring out how to donate the money to the government.

The residents want the donation to go straight to the project.

"Definitely to President Trump's hands, so that nobody can mess with it. No congressmen and no senators, to mess with it. Just for the bricks to the border," says Prudencio.

KRGV’s Christian Von Preysing spoke to South Texas College political science professor Mark Murray about the different ways to give money to the government.
