NEAR SAN BENITO – Last week, a shelter in San Benito with a decades-long history of welcoming people of all places celebrated helping its 10,000th refugee.

The three religious sisters who have been running La Posada Providencia for the past 29 years say they will continue to offer opportunities to refugees.

“It’s very important because, first of all, the gospel mandates to welcome the stranger,” says Sister Margaret, “and they are our brothers and sisters.”

The former teachers also impart English classes and teach them life skills to survive in the country.

KRGV’s Rick Diaz visited the group, which claims to help people from 85 different countries.
