RIO GRANDE VALLEY - A valley man is hoping to raise awareness about the dangers surrounding diabetes. 

David Norec wrote a children's book on the importance of healthy choices. 

"In 2013,  I lost my brother to diabetes, to the effects of diabetes and then the following year I lost my sister also to diabetes. And I have another sister who's gone legally blind; she's in a wheel chair now.  It's just rampant in my family and from those tragedies I just thought what can I do", said Norec. 

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three people in the valley have Diabetes.
