With flu season officially starting in October, doctors are saying now’s the time to get your flu shot since it takes about two weeks for it to start taking an effect in your body.

Health experts predict this year's flu season — which peaks between December and February — could start earlier than usual.

Dr. Juliana Falcon, a family medicine technician with the South Texas Health System, says patients six months or older can get a flu shot.

“It is highly recommended in those populations that are at higher risk, which tend to be the children and the older population — like age 65 and above — especially in children because they're usually in enclosed spaces like school or daycares where it tends to spread really quickly,” Falcon said.

Some of the symptoms you might experience with the flu are headaches, fever, body aches and congestion.

Doctors predict an increase of both flu and Covid cases this year.

The flu and Covid vaccines don't fully protect you from getting sick, but can help reduce the symptoms.

Besides getting vaccinated, you can also prevent the spread of germs by washing your hands and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze.
