Three men continue to recover following a three-vehicle crash that happened last week near the SpaceX Boca Chica facility.

Among those hospitalized in the crash was 22-year-old Arnoldo Coronado.

According to Coronado’s wife — Karla Gomez — Coronado has undergone multiple surgeries.

“His ribs are broken, his lung had collapsed,” Gomez said.

The crash happened on Thursday, April 18 when a Jeep tried to pass a Chevrolet Silverado  in a no-passing zone on State Highway 4, and sideswiped a tractor trailer driving in the opposite direction.

The trailer ended up crashing into the Silverado.

The other men hospitalized in the crash were identified as 21-year-old Oscar Calvillo and 20-year-old Pedro Villanueva.

All three of the victims are related, and they're also co-workers. The trio were on their way to a construction job at SpaceX when the crash happened.

State Highway 4 has become more popular over the years as beach goers, SpaceX workers and enthusiast use the road.

The Texas Department of Transportation says they’ve noticed the increase in traffic, and they’re working on plans to improve the road.

TxDOT also plans to rehabilitate FM 1419. The project includes upgrading the roadway to concrete with raised pavement markers

Construction should start in July 2024

TxDOT is also looking into possibly adding additional lanes in late 2026.
