Trial Underway for Man Accused in Deadly Road Rage Shooting
EDINBURG - The trial of a man accused in a deadly shooting that police describe as a ‘road rage’ incident is underway.
Fabian Paredes was 31-years-old when he was arrested in the death of 27-year-old Joshua David Sanchez after the incident back in 2017.
In opening arguments, the Defense Attorney Terry Canales argued Paredes, who was driving with his wife, had been threatened by Sanchez and acted in self-defense.
Prosecutor Roxanne Salinas says the state has surveillance video showing the vehicles involved, and that there was no reason for Paredes to fire at Sanchez.
A witness from the Edinburg police department who responded to the scene that afternoon, officer Juan Hernandez, was one of the first witnessed called to testify Wednesday.
The trial is expected to last up to five days.
Paredes is facing a charge of murder; he has pleaded not guilty.
