RIO GRANDE VALLEY- Travelers coming to and from the Rio Grande Valley are noticing longer wait times at international bridges.

Around 7:30 Sunday evening, the Donna International Bridge only had two lanes open for motor vehicles.

One man told CHANNEL 5 NEWS in more than three hours of waiting, he'd hardly moved a half a mile.

A valley woman said she waited in line at the Progreso International Bridge for two hours Sunday morning.

During that time, she said things got tense.

"You don't know what could happen," said Martha Martinez.

"A lot of people could get very upset and start fighting on the lines or something like that. Or start, the cars, sometimes they even hit each other because they want to cut in."

A Reynosa man said his time on foot, more than doubled at the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge.

He waited an hour and a half.

The long wait times come after Customs and Border Protection announced they would pull resources from ports of entry to help process the surge of immigrants seeking asylum at the border.

A CBP spokesperson confirmed there were long delays at the ports over the weekend.

They said more traffic from Mexico is also coming into the U.S.
