Texas Water Development Board addresses water concerns in Valley visit
The Texas Water Development Board is addressing the water needs of the Rio Grande Valley being caused by dwindling supplies.
The board visited the Brownsville Public Utilities Board and the North Alamo Water Supply's wastewater treatment plant to view the projects funded through their programs.
The visit comes after reports of the reservoirs providing water to the Valley falling to less than 25%.
The board is urging Valley planners to submit applications for improvements.
“Look at the needs we have down here, look at the artificial drainage we're having to build and how costly it is for us, so that we can qualify for more loans, more grants,” state Rep. Janie Lopez said.
The next TWDB meeting is set for Thursday, Sept. 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Harlingen City Hall.
